A ten-point website checklist for small businesses

A ten-point website checklist

Short answer · updated 2026-09-22

Ten things to check on your own website in fifteen minutes, from a phone, with what to do about each.

Check these from your phone

  • It loads securely. The address shows a padlock, not “Not secure”.
  • Your phone number can be tapped to call.
  • Your address or service area is on the site, in words, not only in a map.
  • Your opening hours are there, and they are right.
  • What you offer is listed, with prices where you can give them.
  • Every page is easy to read on a phone without zooming.
  • The contact form actually arrives. Send yourself a test.
  • Pages open in a few seconds on mobile data. Large photos are the usual cause when they do not.
  • The footer shows your legal company details and a link to a privacy notice.
  • Your domain has SPF, DKIM and DMARC set, so nobody can easily send email as you.

What to do with the results

  • Most of these are small fixes that whoever manages your site can do in an afternoon.
  • If several fail at once, or nobody manages the site any more, that is usually the point where a rebuild costs less than patching.
